This blog post might be for you if you have a business, but you don’t feel like your purpose is in alignment with your business right now. Alternatively, it may be for you if you want to start a side hustle, but you have no idea where to start. Or maybe you’ve recently gone through a divorce, you’re a stay-at-home mom looking to do something for yourself, or your kids just went back to school full-time, and you want to contribute to the household while pursuing your passions.
If you’re ready to get tips on how to start a profitable side hustle and feel equipped to market your business online while impacting many lives, this is the blog post for you. Let’s delve into the four steps to either starting your side business or making your business more profitable.
Step #1 — Get Your Mindset Right
It all starts with your mindset and shifting the narrative that things don’t happen to you, they happen for you. What happens with mindset is when I talk to a lot of women, many times they tell me, “I’m not good at anything.” So, you really need to change the way you talk to yourself because you probably tell your kids that they’re good at a lot of things, right? And you see their qualities, but for you, you can’t see your own, right? So, I want you to start making a list of some of the things that you are good at and start changing that narrative from “I’m not good at anything” to “I’m good at ______.” Another typical mindset block I hear women say is “I’m not good at technology” or “I’m allergic to technology,” which stops them from starting their business. So, change your mindset. Unless you’re a developer, none of us are 100% confident about technology. The good thing is technology’s just a vehicle to help you reach people, and there are many resources available to learn. Imposter syndrome is also something that comes up when starting a profitable business. Things like “Who do I think I am?” or “No one’s gonna listen to me.” But remember, you have gifts and talents meant to impact the world, and the closer you come into your purpose, the more challenges you may face. Recognize these mindset blocks and push past them.
Step #2 — Don’t Start a Side Hustle for the Wrong Reasons
Sometimes people start a side hustle to make more money, but if that’s your only motivation, it might not work out. Make sure you’re going in it for the right reasons. I’ve seen successful female entrepreneurs possess three main qualities: they love what they’re doing, they love to help others, and they persevere through challenges. When it comes to your business, always prioritize serving people. Instead of focusing on making money, focus on making an impact, and the money will follow. So, don’t start a side hustle to make money; start it because you want to make an impact.
Step #3 — Find Your Gifts
Many women tell themselves they’re not good at anything, but that’s not true! We’re all good at something. To find out what it is, think about the things that come naturally to you, the things you enjoy doing, and the things people compliment you on. Make a list of your strengths and talents to gain clarity on your gifts.
Step #4 – Turn Your Gifts into a Business
Once you’ve identified your gifts, it’s time to turn them into a business. Whether it’s offering services, creating products, or sharing your knowledge, there are many ways to monetize your talents. Some ideas include coaching, consulting, freelance writing, virtual assisting, crafting, baking, or tutoring. Choose something that aligns with your passions and skills.
